Migration Checklist: From Statuspage to Developer-First Workflows

February 25, 20267 min read

A status platform migration fails when teams focus on design first and workflow last.

Use this checklist to preserve continuity while upgrading your operating model.

Phase 1: Inventory

  • Export current services/components.
  • Export active subscribers and notification channels.
  • Capture your incident severity taxonomy.
  • Document auth model for public and private pages.

Phase 2: Rebuild structure

  • Recreate services using audience-appropriate naming.
  • Define public and internal page boundaries.
  • Implement equivalent notification routing.
  • Validate custom domain and DNS settings.

Phase 3: Workflow modernization

  • Add API/CLI status operations.
  • Connect monitoring auto-incident creation.
  • Add CI/CD maintenance hooks.
  • Add template-based incident updates.

Phase 4: Cutover

  • Run both systems in parallel for one week.
  • Verify notifications in a controlled test incident.
  • Move traffic and monitor subscriber behavior.

Common miss

Teams forget to train on-call responders on the new update workflow. Do one live drill before full cutover.
